Did some trolling this morning before work. A couple of unusual events occured. Surface temp was up to 77.5F Kensico main body and 78.9F east of the Bridge. Got two hits early on but no fish. Then around 7:00 caught an undersized Laker. Released it and expected it to recover and head down as they usually do. Well this one got picked up by an Osprey. Which then got Chased by a couple of seagulls.
Started heading back westward and got an enormous hit wih my lure at 30ft over 80ft of water. The rod
bent not like a fish hit but more like it got snagged. But the depth made that impossible. Grabbed the rod,
felt the fish and started to retreive. Whatever it was it felt simply enormous. Not 5 seconds later the fish broke off. Reeled up the line and the crankbait was there but the front treble was bent out and the back treble had broken and was missing a hook. I must have sat there a few minutes wondering if I just lost a record Trout. Gathered myself and back tracked where I had trolled and repeated the route. Suddenly a cormorant rose up not more than 20ft from the boat. It suddenly occured to me that there was a high probability that this coromorant had grabbed my lure. This bird was hunting alone and I had no idea it was even there during my first pass. 8:00 came and I went out westward under the bridge and to my surprise hooked a 21 inch Laker. Released that one and headed south back toward my boat area. Halfway down I hooked and landed a 23 incher. Got him released then suddenly it started raining pretty hard. It was 9:15 and the forcast was suppose to be just cludy till past 10:00. Rowed as fast as I could with lines up but managed to get soaked anyway. At least there was no thunder. By the time I was packed and got to the car the rain seemed to have stopped. The whole morning was cloudy, overcast and wonderfully cool, for a change. Here's one the two Lakers this morning.
