Kensico early morning 7/31/10
« on: August 01, 2010, 04:16:09 pm »
Got out at 5am with my buddy and had a decent plan of attack hoping for some big bass. Started up in Area 3 and had some near misses on topwater but only got one smb in the boat at about 2lbs. We hit a couple of weedy humps and had some missed hooksets and I got a nice 3lb lmb on a Keitech Swing Impact 3.5" mini swimbait on a 3/8 ounce jig head. Then my buddy got a nice 2lb lmb on a t-rigged tube.

We headed on down to the Rye Bridge where we tried deep drop-shotting some finesse worms. Didn't see much on the depthfinder and didn't have much more than some nibbles. Seems like fellow member Stan was down around the bridge but everyone should know, I'm as blind as a bat, even with my glasses. LOL Next time, yell at me.

On the way back up to Area 3 we worked the shoreline and had some near misses on t-rigged tubes and worms. The only other fish we got coming back was a 1 1/2 lb lmb on a gold colored spinnerbait in about 5 feet of water around some submerged branches.

Still had a great time talking strategy and technique on a nice day. It got hot around 10am and I had some family things to do so we were in by noon.

Best to All,
Vinny

Ive had some luck with the drop shot even with perch cause the hook is small. 1 " tubes nose rigged even small live or dead shiner has got me to fish in 20 + ft of water .If you start getting little taps take of the bulky worm and use same little hook with small silverfleck tube. Then you know whats there and can move on.If I hit Perch or Crappie I stay until it slows then move on.

I fished Kensico from 8-11 on Saturday. With the weather so hot, it was the first time in about a month.  My boat is located in section 8 so I started off the day by checking out the shoreline near the bridge.  I had a few nibbles but they were either dinks or panfish.  I wanted to explore today with my fishfinder but my batteries died this morning.  I decided to row over to the main lake and try a few weedy spots.   I saw a boat where I wanted to fish but I gave them a wide berth and headed up the peninsula.  After passing them, I noticed the blue Yankee cap and guessed it was Vinny.  I didn't stop as I figured I run into him again later in the day.  Fished the weeds and trees and pulled out 2 LM on texas rigged worms.  Tried sliders, spinnerbaits and tubes too.  Had a few follows but it was slow fishing day on a gorgeous Saturday.
