DEP Boat Auction
« on: July 12, 2010, 10:43:41 pm »
Once again, I believe I missed the annual DEP boat auction.  Does anyone know if it is the same time every year? Also, can a single boat be bought by an individual or do you have to purchase several boats in a lot? How can I find out the auction date from year to year? ???

Check the DEP site next year before Father's Day. The auction lots usually run in single boat, double boat, and multiple boat lots ... just bid on the boat(s) you are interested in.

Unless you are auction addict and interested in participating in one more than in actually buying the boat, there are several more options for buying a used inexpensive boat.  My favorite is www.Craigslist.org .  You can search it locally or expend your search to the adjacent areas within your driving range.  Find your state and region on the main page, choose "for sale> boats" from the drop-down menu and enter your search criteria, for example "12 aluminum".   Sometimes boats are sold with trailers, oars, motors, PFDs and other useful stuff.  Prices are lower at winter time and go up in the beginning of the season.

Good luck!
