Striped Bass Charter Advice
« on: July 12, 2010, 04:47:22 pm »
Never been on a Striped Bass Charter. Actually never fished saltwater in my life.  From what I have heard, they are a ton of fun and you can catch some HUGE fish......Anyone have any recommendations for a Striped Bass Charter out of our area or Connecticut, etc? Also, when is a good time to go? is August/September a decent time to go? What about morning or Night? Thanks in advance for info.

The sound is not that good unless your out far east. I like night fishing Out of  Sheepshead  Bay Brooklyn they go in the ocean south shore .Passtime Princess was my favorite boat havent been there in 3 years .My Insound trips on my buds boat have only produced a few small blues . If you never caught a blue you will love it they are all over the Sound Charters .

If you fish sound go east Connectict

Just called pastime is gone !

The stripers follow the Blues and sit under them. Most trips are for Blues /Stripers Fun 75 bucks a person but worth it.

Just remember, no matter where you go, even out of Montauk, all of the stripers are loaded with PCB's, a known carcinogen, as well as all the mercury that most big fish  around here are laden with. And you don't have to go far east to get big ones, especially if you go at night. Maybe you can do a charter that targets more than one species so you can get some better eating fish like fluke now, or black fish i October, or even porgies.

Hey Biz you said "I dont know anything about "Blues", watch your fingers they bite a finger off before you can blink an eye!Much stronger than a pikerel.Live Bunker works great this time of year  for real big ones.If just for sport Blues are like hooked pigsLoads of fun but they taste kinda soapy. If you keep a Blue Gut and gill it within 10 min or it gets funky put on ice  right after catching.

Thats about the same size as my friends Mako. Its all about the captain !I like the big boats they all meet at around the same spot 20 miles off Jersey coast . Hundreds on the water at night it  looks from a distance like a floating city . They fish the wrecks near the start of Hudson Canyon. Most times we would get 10 to 20 blues with a few stripers mixed .Fun Times

Since Stripers and PCBs have been brought up, looked around and found this:

"Because striped bass have a unique life cycle in which they are exposed to and accumulate environmental pollutants such as PCBs, fish consumption advisories have been in effect for this species for over two decades. Current advisories for striped bass taken from Jamaica Bay, Eastern Long Island Sound (East of Wading River), Peconic and Gardiners Bay or Long Island's south shore waters are to eat no more than one meal per week of fish caught in these areas. For striped bass taken from Upper and Lower Bays of New York City Harbor or Long Island Sound west of Wading River, women of childbearing age and children under the age of 15 should eat no striped bass and all other people should limit their consumption of striped bass from these waters to no more than one meal per month. These advisories have been in effect for a number of years and as new evidence has documented a decline in PCB levels the advisories have been relaxed for ocean caught striped bass and may soon be relaxed for the first time in 25 years for fish caught in the Hudson River."
