fish attractant
« on: July 07, 2010, 08:26:54 am »
I met some guys at the shokan reservoir last weekend and they were trolling spoons. They showed me a tube they had that looked like chap stick. When i asked what it was they were using they said it was herring wand made by bio edge.He had 4 real nice trout in the boat and had released 3 others. They said they had been using this stuff for a couple years and wouldn't go without it.The company makes a bunch of different flavors.it is expensive but I bought a tube and going to give it a try.If anyone would like to try it you can find it here.

Im not a big trout fisherman, but on a charter in Lake George for Lake Trout, the captain put attractant on all the spoons we trolled. Also on Lake Ontario for Salmon, the captain I was with used attractant on all spoons as well.

Interesting... I wonder what "flavor" would work best for reservoir trout?

Thats that stuff from lunkerville right? I use eagle claw gel with glitter on my crappie tubes it helps them hit it more than once.

I'll have to try Herring, Ken.  Are the sticks any better than the liquid varieties?

This thread reminded me of something I learned once -- that rubbing a cut clove of garlic on your hands will immediately mask any other smells on your skin.  Since I've seen plenty of garlic-flavored fish attractants, I'd have to imagine that fish at least don't mind the smell. Has anyone tried rubbing garlic on their hands and rod-handles to mask their scent?  I wouldn't mind stinking like garlic if it got me more fish.

Best,

HF

HF

I use the thick gooey kind that stays on my lures. Does the same job as the stick kind
which Ive never personally used. I think the thin spray on liquids are only good for soft bass baits
that absorb the attractant.

I've never tried rubbing garlic on my hands and I won't- unless maybe I've gotten gasoline on my hands.
That's a guaranteed way of keeping fish from hitting anything you touch.
