Put the rod tip as parallel to the water surface as you can. Put the reel in free spool. Depending on your setup you may have to hand feed the line a bit. If you use a lure with resistance (ie; lipped) it will pull out the line without any manual help. If using say a spoon it will need help. Either way, once you are past the leader and the first color starts running it will all go out on it's own. Be careful about spooling speed
cause a leadcore backlash is a headache and a half. If your reel has an adjustment control for free spool speed it helps. If not, just watch your rowing speed espeially your big strokes. With a level-wind reel this
usually isn't a problem. Once you're at your desired depth stop the free spool and put the rod in a holder if you have one. Leadcore is speed sensitive, meaning if you stop the boat completely for 10 seconds the line can easily drop 10ft, until you start rowing again. I manage two leadcore lines this way, no problems.
Another word of caution- keep an eye on your depth at all times. When you hit an underwater "mountain"
change course and the line will follow and avoid snagging bottom. Leadcore line follows the rowing track rather than cutting corners like mono. Where are you planning to troll sat?
