Bass & Catfish Pics included.
« on: June 27, 2010, 09:07:23 pm »
Fished this morning from 730am - 10am at the "stunted pond".....Non-stop action....caught 16 Catfish and 3 Largemouth Bass (14", 16", and 18"), along with about 5-7 sunnies/bluegills.  All fish were caught with nightcrawlers or live shiners, except 2 bigger bass.  16" and 18" LM Bass were caught on on 1/2 sunnies I cut.  I used 1/2 sunnies thinking I would maybe catch a real big Catfish, but was happy to catch 2 nice Bass on them, a littls surprised though.
The 18" LM Bass had good weight for a Bass only 18", he was 3lbs. 9oz.  All fish were released (except 2 sunnies for cutbait.), although I was tempted to put the biggest bass on my wall...One of the heaviest LM Bass I have caught in my time.  I probably should take some of these fish out of this pond so some grow bigger?

Bass
Someone told me this once... if you hold the bass like that, support it's tail section so you don't hurt it's jaw.

Nice fish,
Vinny

nice fish, when holding a bass like that, the fish is temporally paralyzed. you're making a huge batch of catfish and bass soup it looks like.

all were released and swam away just fine.....although im thinking I should start to take some of these fish out of this small pond, so that some can get really big?

hahaha, its in Mahopac....there's this 1 spot from shore that produces bites every single cast on worms, shiners, cut sunfish, corn, anything.....but 20 feet down the shoreline either way and you wont even get a bite...I never seen anything like it....I see guys sometimes fish for 3 hours 30 yards from me and catch 1-2 fish, while I catch 20-30.....its crazy... must be a dropoff or something and all the fish just sit in this 1 spot.....i mean 16 catfish in 2 hours is crazy, and i held them all to see if I was catching the same ones, which i obviously wasn't....many of the bullheads were over 12" and over 1lb......

as long as nightcrawlers, shiners, and cut up sunnies work...im not changing a thing. There's gotta be a 4-5lber in there.

Depending on the size of the sunfish, I cut the sunfish into 2 pieces or 4 pieces.  Then put it on a hook, with bobber and cast it out and wait. Usually have to really wait a while before setting the hook, cuz the bobber takes off sometimes but the fish only has a piece of my bait in its mouth, not the whole piece of bait.

Bizarro,

I think you got a couple of Bass mixed in with those catfish.  Prob. didn't want to catch the same ones.
