This weekend

How's it going to be this weekend? Hopefully this extreme heat doesnt make the bass fishing too tough from shore.

With the extreme heat the predictions for thunderstorms vary. So far I'm hearing that Sunday will be the rainy day. I have a family thing on Saturday so I'll look to get out Monday or Tuesday now that school is over. Luckily I have 2 weeks before summer school starts.

I've heard stories and seen pictures of people who have been struck by lightning while fishing. I don't want to be anywhere near an aluminum boat on an open lake with lightning around.

Best to All,
Vinny

The Carp also always seem to swim near the top of the water, their fins coming out of the water almost like sharks.

Carps ...go early and you can see them in the shallows turning rocks over looking for food. I would use corn or a hard dough that (cornmeal/flour) mix...the first hour can be very exciting and the last hour of light..Look for a clearing past the weeds to place your baits...also use 6-8lb test they have great vision..Before I became a trout fishaholic, in my teen years my cousin and I caught hundreds of carps.. they fight well ..oh, have a big net..I lost a bunch cause my net was too small.

Thanks for the info....white or yellow corn? should I throw some in the pond before casting pieces out there? use a really small hook or no? with bobber? I see them throughout the whole day at this place 10-15ft. away from shorejust cruising around the surface....they have to be like 25" + in length.

Yellow corn.. I never used a bobber.. size 6 hook eagle claw..They are bottom feeders..primarily..but I saw a guy trolling spoons snag a huge carp last year at cross river..Oh chum the day before the area..I've never caught the one's crusing around..you can try  and see what happens

I usually see like 5-6 everytime i go to this pond....this pond is fairly small and has tons of catfish on the bottom...as well as LM Bass and sunnies.......these carp come close to shore but are always near the surface....
This pond is pretty much one of the stunted ponds where you get a bite every single cast with a worm, and catch a bunch of bass and catfish but all are under 16"....These Carp however look way bigger....Maybe even 30"?

I use to catch carp in Cross River from shore using a #6 eagle claw bait holder hook, threaded
with 3-4 kernels of CANNED WHITE CORN on a slip sinker rig with 1/4 egg sinker.
The point of the hook MUST be covered. Carp are often much smarter than they look.
Had alot of fun with 6 lb test mono as the carp were all 10-15 lbs.
Don't know about now, but the small pond on the other side of causeway use to be
terrific for carp, you'd see (and hear) them jump clear out of the water in the summer
mornings. Have fun!
