There are a lot of trout guys here (not me) and I have no doubt they will chime in.

Muscoot is not really known as a trout reservoir but they are there. I don't think they're stocked, but they can come in from the Amawalk outlet that is stocked as well as the Titicus, and Cross River outlets as well as the streams that go into Muscoot in Croton Falls.

I once took a small trout where the Amawalk outlet flows into Muscoot.

I would try under the route 35 bridge by Cherry Street. There are some guys that go out on some dangerously thin ice there (sometimes it never freezes because there's a current there) and have gotten some nice browns.

And one of my favorite suicidal fish stories (I'm sure we all have some if if we've fished long enough) involves a 14 inch trout in Muscoot. I was rowing back real fast one April after going for crappie under the aforementioned bridge. My buddy was in the back, lighting a cigarette, as his rod leaned out the back and his little crappie jig was bouncing in the wash, no more than six feet behind the boat when this stupid trout nailed it and almost pulled the rod in if I hadn't dove on it. I've seen pickerel do that with a lure dangling of the the back of a boat when the lure wasn't even in the water, but this trout was dumb!

Anyway, I go to other reservoirs when targeting trout.

Ah bass fishing, now that's what I think of when I think of Muscoot. There are definitely nice largemouth and smallmouth in Muscoot. I've caught decent sized fish in the 4lb range and have heard of 7+ lbers being caught there.

Best Always,
Vinny
