Lake Mahopac
« on: June 07, 2010, 09:50:42 am »
Anybody have any experience fishing Lake Mahopac? I know there are ton of different species in that Lake. My girlfriend has a boat on Lake Mahopac, might give it try next weekend....the boat is pretty big, so I probably won't be able to get too close to shore....any advice? I also could fish off the dock?
Thanks in advance.

I've fished Lake Mahopac on a friends bassboat and had a great time. There are a lot of smallmouth bass as well as largemouth to be had.
Good Luck,
Vinny

This time of the year they may hit spinnerbaits and crankbaits. If you can cast toward shore or find some structure underwater (you'd need a depthfinder) you can try jigs or my favorite, a t-rigged green pumpkin senko. I don't think of Mahopac having many laydowns to throw at (wood in the water). You can also try some topwater baits like Zara Spooks or another of my favorites, a Hula Popper.

I usually throw the kitchen sink until I find what might be working, then concentrate on that pattern until it dies out.

Good Luck,
Vinny
