i use to rent boats at canopus all the time.  I remember I got this one decent size bass when i banked the boat by the small dam.  I got out of the boat to stretch my legs and started to shore cast the beach side.  What a great bass that was.  That lake is filled with turtles also.

Went to Canopus today...fished off the dock from 530am to 8am with my girlfriend...only caught sunnies (used worms, lures, etc...everything) and 3 turtles by accident...Right before I left I casted out a small sunny as bait, and caught a LM Bass, only 11inches though....thought it would have been bigger than that.  Then went to Baldwin Lake in Mahopac and fished from 9am - 1130am.....My girlfriend and I fished with worm and bobbers....caught 14 catfish combined (all between 10"-14")...caught a few of the catfish on sunnies as bait, caught a ton of sunnies, and 4 bass...I caught 3, but she caught the biggest of the day....16"....I lost 2 other bigger bass right near shore, I would say 15"+....Literally a bite every single cast..saw some huge fish near surface about 20-25ft away from shore, big scales...must have been carp? Pics attached...all fish were released...
Pic 1 - Canopus Lake Bass caught on live sunny. All other pics from Baldwin Lake.

The sunny was like 4-5inches, surprised a bass only 11 inches ate it.....most of the catfish caught on worms and bobbers, a few were caught on cut up sunnies (1/2 sunnies)...I think Baldwin is public for the most part....i used to fish there like 4-5 years ago, pulled a few bass outta there over 18" back in the day.....its very small, no boats, but a ton of catfish and bass....problem is everything is like 10-15", guess the lake is stunted or whatever they call it.

My older brother used to be a state park patrolman on fahnstock so I fished it from shore a few times. The biggest thing I remember was seeing all the velveeta cheese and corn on the bottom. We did catch a few in the 14 inch range but that was on nightcrawlers. That was probably about 8 years ago tho.
