Reservoir Thermoclines | Please Explain
« on: March 20, 2010, 09:36:14 am »
Hello All,

This is my first post to the forum. Please explain what a themocline is and what I need to know about fishing for trout in the thermocline during the summer.

Thanks,

Teddxn

Teddxn,
Welcome to the forums. We have a nice bunch of trout guys here who are willing to share info.

Phishan showed me a gadget once that measures the thermocline. Basically it was a probe that you would reel down from it's casing to find the temperature at different levels. I'm still hoping to find one at a decent price for myself but it seems to be pretty unique.

I'm still mainly a bass guy but I'm getting good experience and info on trout from some of the guys on the forum. Stick around.

Best Always,
Vinny

Thank you for your replies. As for the measuring device, I found such a specialized thermometer at The Bedford Sportsman in Bedford Hills.

Yes you can measure the temperature.
Or, you can also just watch your fishfinder and make an assessment
of where the thermocline is based on your fish readings in terms
of numbers and depth.
