I'll give you some a spot on Cross River. I caught a lot of trout through the ice around there last winter. It's at the opposite end from the dam. Go east on 35. Make a right, going south after the bait shop and park before the causeway. You can fish off the causeway, but if you look towards the dam from the causeway, on the right side is a point, maybe one, but not more than two tenths a mile from where you parked. I'll bet there's paths to the point and for at least 50 yards from that point, going back towards the road, you can cast to deep water (40 feet) with a Krocodile. That's one place to try on Cross river if you don't have a boat.

Kensico is better for Lake Trout because there aren't any in Cross River.
Cross River is better for Brown Trout because any trout you catch is a Brown.
The way to find good shore spots is to look at a topgraphical map to see where
the deep water comes close to shore, then to go up there and spend time doing
some exploring. By the way, I think you have maybe 2-3 weeks of being able to fish for trout
from shore before the waters get too warm. Normally you can catch trout until the last week
of May but this year it seems the waters are warming up sooner than usual.

I can see how you would confuse that brown trout you caught with a rainbow trout.  A lot of time trouts colors vary because of differences in diet, water temperature and depth the fish was holding in. the deeper the water the fish was gotten from the darker the fish in some cases.  Also the real dark brown/orange color in brown trout are spawning males.  Also stress can have a huge impact on coloration.
