Kensico vs. Cross River
« on: February 16, 2010, 05:27:22 pm »
Now that Wade has moved my driving time has almost doubled. I'm considering fishing at Cross River instead of Kensico this season. Does anyone know if the trout fishing is better at either place? Looks like there are some streams around Cross River- does anyone have any experience fly fishing there?

I can't afford to put a boat on a second reservoir right now, so if I made the move I'd consider trading my boat/spot on Kensico (Area 1) for one on Cross River. Are spots on CR as hard to come by as Kensico?

You can catch bass & trout at Kensico.. All I've heard is that Cross River is more known for having big browns..

If its closer for you, why not try a new body of water!

Call ahead. Usually CR and Kensico are both full, but spots do come available. Nows the time to act, before March when they start appointments!!

Hi Chris, Cross river inlet is an excellent fly fishing stream, it contains wild browns and brookies. Spring and early summer is the best time to fish it. Its artificial lures only, and has a no kill section. Its well maintained by T.U.

Before moving my boat to Kensico in about '94, I had it for several years at Cross River and got into a lot of good smallmouth there.

Thanks all. I managed to get a new spot on Kensico near the bridge (and I can't invest in a second boat on CR) so i think i'll stay put for now and deal with the extra driving for bait. I'll definitely give fly fishing a shot at CR. Can't wait for opening day...
