Hi everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to everyone.
Have been living in Westchester since moving from the UK a few years back. Have decided to re-take up one of my old hobbies, fishing!
My UK fishing was limited to slow to medium moving rivers, ponds and lakes and nearly always float fishing - types of UK fish typically Chub, Barbel, Perch, Carp (lakes only) but I can see there is a whole variety of fish to catch inland here.
It seems that I am surrounded with opportunities for fishing in the area given that I am based in Yonkers down by the waterfront but I am little unsure of what to buy tacklewise and whether float fishing is at all popular over here? You have everything here from Hudson Fresh and Sea water mix, to lakes ponds and reservoirs.
1) Do you deem Hudson River to be fished with Freshwater tackle and rig or seawater tackle and rig?
1.1) anyone ever fish with a float in the Hudson? If so would appreciate any tips and advice on best rig, depths etc
2) I note a lot of folks using lures and spinning in lakes versus float fishing? any reason for this in particular?
3) Could anyone recommend a sizeable bait and tackle shop in and around Yonkers area?
4) I am used to a rod that is some 14ft long for a decent float cast - could I reasonably use this one the Hudson as well as on ponds and lakes and reservoirs here?
5) I am planning to just discover a few quiet lakes and ponds in the area and also have a go at the Hudson early evenings after work - tips welcome on where to fish and if anyone would be kind enough to have me tag along so I can learn the local insights I would be very grateful.
6) Lake/pond/reservoir fishing with float - what line strength and hook size?
7) Hudson River - what line strength and hook size?

Used to corn, bread, corned beef - what is recommended for Hudson and Lakes/ponds?
Look forward to hearing from you!
