Smelt in Kensico?
« on: September 02, 2009, 08:48:29 pm »
I was wondering if there are any smelt in Kensico. Its certainly deep enough. There are some excellent streamers and tandem hook streamers that fish for smelt. Anyway whether they're there or not I plan on trolling these patterns when it cools off a little more.

There are definitely smelt in Kensico. I cleaned a 5# Laker earlier this year and it had a
4 inch whole smelt in it's stomach. Although I had heard about smelt in Kensico before
that was the first time I was able to personally confirm it.

Thanks Ken. That's encouraging. I give it a try with Marvin's marvel. Its a venerable old pattern from the 1920's that was dreamed up by a guide at Lake Winnepesaukie. I love tying and fishing the old classic patterns.
