WALLEYE
« on: May 06, 2009, 12:52:37 am »
This is my first time posting to this forum.  I didnt see a seperate thread in the reservior section for East Branch Reservior in Putnam so I guess I'll post it here

I live in Danbury CT right on the NY Border and have been fishing the East Branch reservior alot and have been doing a real number on the largemouth and smallmouth bass there.

Well today I had the shock of my life - I was fishing there and was just about to leave when on my "last" Cast I nailed a really big Walleye 20in + or minus on a yozuri rattle bait!!!

I was totally shocked because I had NO idea there were Walleye in this reservior - let alont even in this area.  When I hooked into this thing and was fighting it I  actually got a little frightened because I was expecting to see a snapping turtle or something scary on the end of my line. It was puling much harder and felt much different than a bass usually does.. When I was able to first get a glimps of this fish I thought it was a really big largemough but then realized iit was a Walleye!!!

I could not believe it when I pulled this thing up. I was soo excited  ;D I took a few images of the beast wiht my camera phone and then let it go.. pretty cool if I do say so myself...

Mark,
Welcome to the forums. My only guess is that if East Branch didn't have scattered walleye before, it may be from the work they just did on Bog Brook and East Branch. They had them drained for a few months while they worked on a dam between them. Maybe some of the BB walleye got through? Bog Brook is known to have them for years.

Gotta run, Best Always,
Vinny

In that case Vinny, I have to head up to BB sometime. I have yet to hook into a walleye.

I just haven't heard or checked myself to know if the water levels at Bog Brook are back up. I'm dying to fish there.

I never went specifically for walleye but I've seen some big fish jump there (off in the distance) that weren't bass. One of my KEEP buddies has fished there for many years and says they are tough but they're in there.

Best to All,
Vinny

I was at Bog Brook Reservior Last evening - First time I had ever fished that lake

I nailed two more really nice Walleye from shore - one on a Yum Money Minnow swimbait and the other on the same yozuri rattle bait I cought the other bog Walleye at EBR.

I also nailed about 7 smallmouth and 5 largemouth all on various lures. Money minnow, rattlebait, worms etc.

I can't believe the luck I'm having with Walleyes lately..

Man - those smallies fight like demons... I'd almost put them on par with bluefish

Mark please post some walleye pics if you can.
I wish we had them here in the more southern reservoirs.

Mark,
Thanks for diving right in with some valuable reporting.

My big question is... how high is the water at Bog Brook or EB?

Thanks,
Vinny

I took some shots of the walleye I caught at EBR and one of the two from BB on my Cell Phone Camera - I don't have any use for Texting or email on my cellphone ( I never use my phone for that stuff) so unfortunately right now I don't think I have a way of geting the images off of it. I have a picture on it of a really Big Yellow Perch I caught last year in Tarrytown also...

I guess I have to buy some kind of memory card that will adapt to the phone and my Computer... If I can figure out a way to get it off the phone I will post them but it may be a while... I'm getting married in Sept and I have a painting to finish up for a client... soon as I can though I will...

Bog Brook is WAAAAYYYYYYYY low... I dont know how high it is supposed to be but judging form the water line it seemed like it was way down there.... Maybe that might account for why the Walleye have been making a showing with the water level's being down - I dont know..

The only other Walleye I caught other than these three so far this year was one at Squantz Pond from shore around this time last year... That one was caught on a senko worm fished near the bottom...

Mark you may be able to transfer the images to your computer using some kind of data cable. It may be worth looking into.....just ask next time you are in your cell provider's store. Then, go buy it on ebay at 1/4 of the price.  8)
