you can also save the tick in a zip lock and check with your local Dept. of Health if they can analyze for you.  I do some work in Sullivan County and it's my understanding it's done for free there.  My hope would be that Westchester County can offer this service and hopefully would be speed enough so you could still receive appropriate treatment if tick indeed is a carrier for lymes.

Let us know what your doctor has to say as the best course of action too.

Hey Everyone,

Fished Kensico Wed. May 20th, 1 largemouth, 3 smallmouth, a nice brown, and two deer ticks! (little B@$t^rds).

I found them Friday morning, after checking myself on Thur.  They weren't engorged at all, still flat, which according to the

CDC, there isn't much of a chance of transmission.  I'm still going to be on the safe side.  Had my doctor call in a script. for

200MG Doxycycline.  It's a one dose (within 36 hours) prevention, which studies show works.

Caution is the key in the future!  Don't set things down on the ground when setting up your boats, or if you do, bring a plastic

sheet to cover the leaves and soil....  Deet Deet Deet.... "Check each other like grooming monkeys"....Use a mirror when you get home,

I found the second one in the middle of my upper back.

All this may seem like a big fuss over a little bug now, but once you "have" Lyme it's no little thing.

Here's some helpful info:

Don't ever be to scared to go fishing!  The Reservoirs are a wonderful resource that should be used and enjoyed.

Tom,
Welcome and thanks for the report. Besides a congratulations on catching a fine selection of fish, I appreciate the deer tick info and links. I often forget to check and I needed a reminder.

Best Always,
Vinny

Remember, for every tick you see, you probably have several others that you don't see since the larva and nymph stages are extremely small.

The ticks around here can carry more than Lyme. Some of the other diseases (Babesiosis and Ehrlichiosis) can be even more dangerous than Lyme.

Well I haven't even caught my first fish of the year yet
but I manged to get bitten by a tick already  >:(
And all I was doing was moving my boat around.
Somehow got past a sweatshirt, collared shirt and a T-shirt and
bity me in the stomach. Fortunately wasn't to too deep so managed
to get it out, it was still squirming in the sink and I have to admit for a
while there I was thinking about how I could torture it.
Interstingly we humans developed allergic reactions to various substances
millions of years ago when our small furry mammailian ancestors first encountered
prehistoric ticks. So these little buggers have really been around stalking us for
a really long time.

Guess I should check out this sawyers permathine product.

Last week, my son and I went to Kensico and Cross River to move the boat around and on the way home, we found about 10 ticks (half male and another half female) all together...  I think we managed to get all of them (2 were hiding inside the pockets !!!)...  Be careful..

Simple advice...  Wear light colored pants, so you could detect the ticks easily...  Put duct tapes on your ankles/lower part of your leg inside out, so ticks will be stopped before moving up to your body..   We stopped 5 ticks that way from migrating upward on that day...
