Fishing in Yonkers or nearby ...
« on: April 19, 2009, 10:19:14 pm »
I am new to this and just want to bring my 5 year old son somewhere close to home to fish where we can leave quickly if (and when) he gets bored!  I hear Tibbetts Brook Park has two small lakes.  Is there anything in them and when would be a good time of day to go?  Also, any baits better for this type of fishing?  Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

My basic take on the local lakes would be to try early or late in the day depending on your schedule. I found right after dinner a good time to take my kids when they were younger. It became an event for us, topped off with Carvel or some other snack before getting back and ready for bed.

Night crawler always seem to get some fish whether it's bass, perch or sunnies. If you use artificial lures keep them on the small size. Small rapala minnow types, small rubber worms, etc.

If you have the time on a weekend, try driving up to Ardsley and Macy Park on Route 9a. People tell me it's got decent fish and a lot of shoreline.

Best Always,
