NYCDEP Police
« on: April 13, 2009, 01:04:03 pm »
I wanted to put it out there that the few times over the years that I've dealt with the NYCDEP PD, they have been aces with me and never gave me a problem. They are currently not afforded line of duty benefits if they get hurt. For example, they get hurt while trying to effect an arrest, they are not covered salary and benefit-wise. If they run out of time on the books, they are screwed. They are fully empowered NYS police officers, and every other officer in the state has this type of protection. They have families like everyone else.

I ask you to sign the petition below if you support what they are fighting for. I was talking to a couple of them yesterday, and they appreciated that I heard what was going on and supported them. If you see them out on the res, let them know you care.

Thanks for the link. I just put it on the front page of the main site. The DEP men and women have always been a pleasure to deal with.

Best to All,
Vinny

Thanks Yonkers...I went to the academy with a few of them and they are awesome guys.  They have also always been aces with me in any way possible.  Anyone that could sign this petition i'd appreciate it as well.  In this day and age, I don't quite understand how you can be expected to do a job where it's always a given you will be injured during your career and not give your men unlimited injury time.

They are, but that can take months to process for a serious injury. Under General Municipal Law 207-C (state law), police officers injured in the line of duty are to receive their first party benefits, i.e., payment of salary, wages, medical and hospital expenses while they are out. NYC is the only municipality that has it's own line of duty system.

If you are in the NYPD and the same injury happened, you would be covered with 100% pay and benefits. These guys get nothing. I believe the NYCDEP PD is looking for equal treatment/protection more than anything.

I can't fault them. Even though these guys wear a uniform, shield, and gun, the city doesn't see them as police officers I guess. IMHO, if you are wearing a uniform, you represent authority and are a target. I wish them luck.

Yea, we'll see. I am not fond of bloomberg, so I wouldn't put it past him.

I prefer to dislike our blind, shoot to wound, retard, of a governor who's approval rating is sinking faster than the economy...

They are really trying to push police unions to see how far they can go legally...just like what's going on in Scarsdale with that PO that was severely injured trying to subdue a mentally insane person.  The city has decided to no longer pay for his health insurance until he's back to duty because they feel while he's out that it's not something they should pay...of course they tell him and his wife and young baby this a month after they stopped paying.  They continue down that road and what u will see if PO's suing the jurisdiction for failing to keep them safe and hospitals for having a revolving door policy on the insane.

"Hospitals for having a revolving door policy on the insane"

Shouldn't that be "Governments for having a revolving door policy on the insane?"

No PBD...That's the misconception here...this is a capitalistic society so it's the hospital's responsibility being they are collecting the $1,000 for the ER visit...not the government...
