I was fishing with my dad (I am 11) at kensico for lake trout. I was using a crocodile and a freeline with a shiner. I had a hit with the freeline and ended up losing the fish. :( I did not see the fish so I am not sure what kind of fish was it. I did not have any hits on the crocadile. What is better at this time, freelines or crocodiles. I am still trying to catch my first laker. Please mention any tips or good methods for lake trout fishing you are willing to share.               THANKS, troutfisher105

Troutfisher, I prefer live bait over lures anytime. At this time of year and the water temp. being cold, lakers can be found anywhere. If you get a hit on live bait switch both rods to bait. Get a third rod and cast while ur drifting the bait if you like. Also, I prefer sawbellies over shiners, though this time of year bellies might not be available. Good luck in your quest for your laker, patience and effort are always rewarded, Phishahn.

"An Angler may operate no more than two lines with or without a rod, and each line is limited
to not more than five lures or baits or a combination of both, and in addition, each line shall
not exceed fifteen hooks points in any combination of single, double or treble hooks."

Joel is right.

True,he did say his dad is in the boat, so 4 rods are a go and a must, Phish.

Troutfisher, my first time out fishing with my dad I was also 11, that was 1973. I set the hook on a fish with the bail open, bad idea, however Dad said, close the bail and set again, I did and it was a 6 lb brown. Here we are 2008 season all wraped up and Dad and I are still fishing together.I look back on the years with Pop and cherish all of those moments. Granted, in my 20's we didn;t spend much time on the H2O.I guess what I'm saying is keep fishing with Dad, get a boat and enjoy the time together. Monster trout fishing is something most people don't understand or can handle. This past season Dad landed a 20 lb laker on Lake George.  Keep at it, I'll share more info with you and your Dad next season.Next year will be 40 seasons my Father has spent time on the Watersheds, most on Pepacton Reservoir.
