I've used the shad and smelt for deep trolling. They do work on trout.
But not as much as some of my other crankbaits.
They might be more effective in shallower conditions or for bass.

I have a couple of the perch colored 4 3/4 ones but haven't thrown them a lot and haven't caught any bass yet with them. I do think they are great for matching the hatch in our reservoirs.

Best Always,

Those look great!

They remind me of some of the work from the more detail oriented guys on this site - http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/ I've learned a lot about making all kinds of lures there. Wish I had space for a dedicated work area. For now I just do a few less involved spoons or in-line spinners at my kitchen table.  :)

Which crankbaits would you recommend for trolling for trout?

My favorites are:
Rapala jointed J9 and J11, Rapala TDD7 and TDD9, Rapala huskyjerk,LC Pointer 78,
LC Silent Pointer 95,LC Bevy Shad, LC Slim Shad D9,Yozuri SH-75
My own crankbait choices are based on resembling one of the two major foodfish for trout
Sawellies and Smelt. And you can see I have surface floaters, suspenders, sinkers, deep divers
all mixed in. I also find Trout seem to prefer "natural" colors and I think size is important
based on what the trout are feeding on at the time of year.
