Tried a night trip on Kensico 8/21
« on: August 22, 2010, 04:52:09 pm »
Went out with my buddy, Roman at about 8pm and stayed until 1am. (it did start drizzling at about 1) It was a nice comfortable night with only a slight breeze once and a while. The water temp was basically 76 degrees. Our basic plan was to hangout up in Area 3 and work some weed edges and humps as well as some rocky shorelines. For the fun of it we brought along some sawbellies to set out under bobbers when we took a food break and sat and relaxed in the boat.

Well it was another "Dinkfest" we both had 3 fish but none over 1 1/2 lbs. All either largemouth or rock bass. My best lmb was caught on a Swing Impact 3.8 Sexy Shad soft swimbait worked slowly over the weeds on a 3/8 oz. jighead. Roman got a couple on a drop shot with a small finesse worm. Our spinnerbaits only attracted rock bass for some reason.

We tried the sawbellies at different depths and in different spots throughout the night. No bites that we could tell. Maybe it's just not the right time of the year? or maybe the fish in Kensico are spoiled by having so much available that our little guys weren't that tempting.

As usual, we still had a great time on a beautiful night. No bugs, no weird creatures in the woods, a really cool experience being out at night on a lake.

Best to All,
Vinny

It seems like the people who fish reservoirs for Bass, never seem to catch them in quantity, is this accurate? I know people catch some huge Bass out of the NYC Reservoirs, but i never hear of people going and catching 8-10 Bass in a session, like you could achieve in smaller lakes/ponds.....do people choose the struggles of bass fishing in reservoirs in hopes of the "big one" and thats why they dont just go to lakes/ponds and catch numerours 2lb+?

Bizaro just cause you don't hear about it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. You can go to any one of these reserviors and catch 20-24 bass a day..

Biz the  Reservoir Fish have as many sawbellys to feed on as they can fit in there mouth !Ponds have less food supply Bass must work harder to survive means more aggression for longer times .You get huge numbers in spring and fall the most in the Res  ..July August is harder to fish without a fish finder but not impossible. Fishing for a few types of fish like you do is a good way to always have action year round. The bite will change evey few weeks.

Sounds about right....Yea especially since most of my fishing is done on weekends and with my girlfriend, action is a "must." If I had the time to fish more often, I would go for bigger fish and sacrafice the numbers of fish I catch in a second.

Hopefully once I get a reservoir boat within a month or so, I can offer to take some guys out from here in return for a day of fishing on their boat with them...

I remember one day i caught 35 LMB in croton falls in a period of 4 hours.  I've never had anything like that before in my life and most of the bass were good size and put up a great fight.  I have never had that happen to me again since that day.

John do you have a boat on C-Falls? I am looking to put one on there soon. Any suggestions to boat areas?

Caught this one right around the time this post was put up, I just got the picture on my computer now.  3.5lb largemouth, caught in Titicus just after sundown.  had a sawbellie suspended about 15 feet down.  My biggest one to date ;D

what kind of scale you have? i never have any luck with the digital scales that are like $39-$59, they are always unreliable and sometimes don't work, etc.
