Kensico 4-24
« on: April 24, 2010, 03:53:02 PM »
Got out this morning on the Kensico side at 7:00. No wind at all for a change (finally!) and
trolled lures up to the bridge to find 5-6 boats working the area with bait west of the bridge.
Typical spring Saturday with good weather. Got snaggged at 30ft over 60FOW..WTF ???
Turned out to be a ball of olf fishing line and at the end of it an old Daiwa rod and reel,
even had a strike guard on it. The wind started picking up and turned around heading back
south with the wind from the north doing most of my work. Managed to hook up with two average
Lakers (22 and 20in) on the way down. Seemed like the fish were more scattered about than in the begining of the month.

Tom is also very good at finding gear. He had a similar catch once when we where out. I think he fishes with only equipment he's dredged up. LOL

Oh yeah, nice lakers.

Tom pulls up some really good stuff. Not garbage like me.
I'm gonna try and beat him out by pulling up a G.Loomis with a Shimano Stella
on it.  ;D

Hey, Ken..

I also was in Kensico this morning with my kids at area 10 (with "M" Michigan cap).  I did ask a guy if caught any and he had two lakers...

Was it you?  If I knew it was you, I would've come closer and said "Hello"...  :D :D

Ken,

We were mostly enjoying a beautiful day and trying our Garmin 140 Fish finder with floating transducer for the first time...  :D  It worked nicely !!!

We tried jigging with Kastmaster and trolling with three way swivels using 1oz. weight.  Then, used night-crawlers around the shore for Small-mouth...

As you stated previously, in area 10, there was a BOAT, which blocked our path to the water...  So, we had to find another path...   Not Nice at all.  Very inconsiderate...   >:(

Anyway,  I'm sure our path will cross again...

Kind Regards,
Sung

Did you try both the 83 Mhz and 200 Mhz frequencies with
that Garmin 140? I ask because I have an Eagle 245 dual frequency
but have yet to find any value in the the 83 Mhz.

I try to fish one day a weekend on whichever day has good weather and less wind
out of Area 10 so we're bound to meet up at some point.

Ken,

We utilized mostly at 200 kHz frequency (Narrow beam) and saw many school of fish around 40 to 65 feet range.  80 kHz frequency (Broad beam) seemed to work fine as well...  We will be fishing around the bridge from either Area 6 or Area 10 on weekeds, too...   Looking forward to seeing you in person...  :D

Regards,
Sung

Nice Laker, there..   How did you catch it, i.e. trolling, jigging... ???

Could I say to you, "Yak she mash"?   :D
