Went out early on Saturday to Kensico and for a while there I thought the only thing I'd be catching wa sa bad case of sunburn. Could not scare up a bite until 9am. Used shiners, rigged for the bottom, and drifted across the Rye water towards 684 a few times. finally with about 150 feet of line out behind the boat, managed to catch a 4 pounder, followed quickly by a 3 pounder, and lastly, a 6 pound pig. That last fish was a real surprise--I was reeling in about 50 feet off the shoreline, getting ready to call it a day, and it could not have been 20 feet deep. Initially it felt like a snag, a dead tree, but then it came alive and every time it saw the boat, it whipsawed itself into a frenzy and headed for the deep water. This went on for about 5 minutes, which felt like an hour. It was quite a struggle, and I kept thinking if I had tied my line knots correctly, or if 6 pound line could handle the brute. Well, it did, and 6 planks have been cured and smoked over alder wood chips and are in the freezer. A great day's fishing on a beautiful body of water.
