Cross River White Perch
« on: April 17, 2010, 08:52:38 PM »
Went to Cross on Thursday for Trout and it was a bit slow so before we left we went to fish along the shoal for bass. Well, I decide to take a cast with a sawbellie with no weights on it , freelining it in about 10 ft of water I have a hit and catch a nice White Perch, bring it to Bobs and it weighs 2 pounds 5 ounces, so i entered in the youth fishing derby, ( I am 13 now), and my birthday was in March and since the perch was a trophy I decided to get it stuffed for my birthday, since my parents have not gotten me a gift yet because i did not no wat i wanted. So I am wondering how long it takes to get stuffed? It is the first fish my family has decided to get it stuffed. I heard about 3-4 months, I know it takes awhile. Sorry, know picks. I am also goin to Kenisico tomorrow, hows the laker and brown fishing doing so far? Thanks

Congrats on the nice white perch.Trout any where this time of year is crapshoot.Try shallow, and with long lines behind the boat,Would try with a float with 10 feet down and freeline the other, all with sawbellies, also, don't ignore a line down 45-50 feet. Don't put all of your eggs in 1 basket,Phish.

Congrats on a trophy white perch and good luck on the derby. I haven't had a fish stuffed since the 1980s but to answer your question, back then getting a fish mounted usually took months, 2 at the shortest and 6-7 at the longest. Alot of that depended on how busy the taxidermist was. Recently I checked around and discovered that today the more common solution is to get a molded replica of your fish which they paint based on a photo you send them. This may be a more attractive option for you than getting it mounted both in terms of cost and speed. Cross River has a big mix of fish and if you liveline a sawbelly and from personal experience, you could catch a Brown Trout, Largemouth/Smallmouth Bass, Crappies, Yellow Perch, White Perch, Fallfish (a big minnow that looks like a silver sucker), White catfish and the occasional oddball carp. Sounds to me like both you and the perch are hooked. :D
