Nov 3 On Kensico
« on: November 04, 2009, 11:44:55 AM »
I went out at 2pm yesterday with a dozen shiners. fished shallow, deep, sat still, trolled.....not a bite. 2 hours and nothing. Is anybody having any luck on Rye side of Kensico? My take on the 09 season is that this year was a poor season. Agree? disagree?

Batroun, It's my first season fishing in the reservoirs and I haven't had any luck, I've been fishing Titicus all season.  Hopefully, next year will bring biggger and better things.

Although I fish the Kensico side, I've fished the Rye Lake side enough to know that it's pretty much the same. I think the spring was good, summer was mediocre (but of course that's the toughest time anyway) and I think that the fall will be good. 2 hours without a bite isn't that bad, I've done much much worse without a bite sometimes.  ;D

Try 6 hours last Sunday with sowbellies cruising in the vicinities of Rye bridge without a bite between the two of us!  Add on top of it seeing guys catching a laker from shore by the bridge (I think it was Brooklynite) - this was really frustrating.  Nevertheless, the season is not over yet and next weekend looks promissing.

That's crazy!!6 hours !!! You start to think "where are all the fish??" I was on the rye side of kensico getting tossed into the guard rail by 684..at 430pm the wind kicked up to 25mph !!!! And on top of that  no bites!!!But when the wind storm picked up ..then I saw fish as I was battling just to make it back to the boat launch...

Some people equate the slow fishing to the wacky weather we've had for the last 6 months. I'm always optimistic and look forward to next weekend. Somehow I don't think the fish care much about the weather patterns above the waterline as long as the water temps give them some place to go. They are in there somewhere.

I've heard from more than a couple of vetarans that mid to late Nov. is the time the browns will come up into Area 3 so I'll be trolling down that arm next chance I get.

Did a LOT of shore fishing from Kensico this year... all over the place and the only decent fish I had was a 2 1/2 lb Brown in March.
It was my first brown from Kensico in the 4 years or so that I have been fishing there so I was very happy.
I think that even though I had the brown, fishing in general was much slower than other years.
I did not catch half as many bass or even sunnies when I went out.
Agree that the whacky weather probably had a lot to do with it.
Vinny, is Area 3 up by Loudens Cove or is it further north up by the other coves?

Area 3 is up theres on the west side of the bridge toward where Route 120 and 22 meet. Area 2 is up the far west side of that penisula toward Route 120 and Nannyhagen Rd.

The depth up toward Area 3 from the bridge tends to be in the 30ft range, nothing too deep so it's mainly the browns that will get up there.

Best Always,
Vinny

Inybl--does Croton have decent places to shorefish?

mikec17--"Did a LOT of shore fishing from Kensico this year"--Being new at Kensico this year I'm shorefishing and I don't know any spots to get to any real depth from shore other than the Rt.22 bridge, any recommendations?
