Finally got a spot on Kensico... advice?
« on: March 17, 2009, 01:32:49 PM »
Just got the call, I've been on the waiting list. A spot opened on Area 1 and I jumped on it. I have only fished Kensico from shore... is Area 1 a decent spot? Or close to a good trout spot?

And now I need a boat. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Would people recommend going to Jack Steward? The guy I spoke to also mentioned Gary Pierratti, has anyone bought a boat from him?

Thanks,
Chris

Haha, I just posted the post above yours and saw this. I could be wrong, but I believe you have to fill the spot with a boat ASAP.

I am not sure about the location of A1, but I believe a map of the different areas was posted here somewhere. I have never dealt with Jack Stewart, but here's his site. Some people here have.

Good to hear you got one.

Thanks. I made a DEP appointment and locked up the spot- just need to get the boat over there for the appointment. Just spoke to Jack Stewart, he said a lot of spots opened up there today so hopefully some other folks on here who having been waiting will get one too...

Vinny was nice enough to post a picture with areas for Kensico.

If i remember correctly, I have heard that area 1 is great for bass.. Not sure about trout, but hey.. can ya get picky with spots on Kenisco??

Plus, it doesn't always mean you'll never catch a trout in that area..

I'm in area 3 and row down the channel all the time, but the whole area is great for bass. A buddy of mine told me he's caught trout there as well in spring.

I got a spot at area 3 this morning as well. :) I was told that there would be spots at area 11, 3, and 1 from jack stewart about a week ago. I started calling at exactly 8 when they opened and it was busy until 8:24. Lucky there was still spots opened but site 11 was already taken which is what I was hoping for as i will be fishing mainly for trout. Well anyway I'm still glad I got a spot and I cant wait to get out there.

Chris,
Welcome to the forums, we have a nice bunch of guys here.

I'm in Area 3 also and bass is the main target until you work yourself down toward the bridge. The trout that come up in that area seem to be either very early or late in the season. November is when you might see some browns heading up to Areas 1 and 3.

Best Always,
Vinny
