Shore Fishing at Kensico
« on: February 15, 2009, 09:10:02 PM »
Hey folks, I haven't done much fishing for anything besides panfish and I don't like boats (I can't swim). I would really like to get into trout and bass fishing this season. I could use tip and sugestions as to how, when and where. Particularily shore fishing. I realize that this is a huge topic area but any advice would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
GTAngler

best of luck.its legal to wear waders in the res's which makes fishing easier if you ask me .you can walk out past any potential overhangs etc.just be careful and wear a wading belt and a flotation belt
heck with it i'm going fishing

Here's a shot of one of my buddies fishing with waders at Loudon's Cove. That's at Kensico's Rye Lake section, off of Route 120.

Best to All,
Vinny

I have yet to make to the Loudens Cove side. What's so special about the area?

There is some type of water runoff pool, which seems like a great pool for trout to hang in. Very accessable too.

I think Tom or Joel has mentioned catching browns there before. I'd like to row out there this season to check it for myself.

Thanks all. I'll try it from shore as it warms up, and then make the cross country trek by boat from area 3.

That sounds good. I'll probably take you up on that joel. Even though I row towards the deeper areas near the bridge and the kensico side for trout, area 3 is great for LM's...plenty of trees in the water.

People here have said yes in the past. Watch out for those dropoffs and rocky areas though. I have had the pleasure of slipping in a stream before....K's is a tad deeper.
