Senkos, a basic plastic bait everyone should use...
« on: August 11, 2006, 11:54:59 AM »
Some people think it's too easy using a plastic worm to catch fish but I say, why not? There are a lot of ways to rig them on your hooks and they catch fish. You can catch all sizes of fish on all sizes of plastic worms.

The "Senko" is the classic plastic worm developed and made by Gary Yamamoto Bait Co. Some people will say that it has the best design and action of any of the plastic worm baits. There are a bunch of other companies that do quite well but the Yamamoto senko is the most popular. When you get real technical, which I'm not, you can sense their weight and how they hold up in action.

When I got out fishing for bass I like to "Texas Rig" my senkos. Here's agreat article I found on the net about it... http://www.catcherman.com/features/rigging/texasrigging030602sportmn.htm

At times I might "Wacky Rig" a senko using my friends custom wacky rigging tool. Checkout his site at... http://www.wackytool.com

That's just a little bit about senkos and fishing with plastic worms. Let me know if you have any tips or experience with them.

Best Always,
Vinny

Hello All,
Just came across this site out of luck.  I was wondering what you needed to do to fish the kensico reservior.  I just sent my permit application in.  Does anybody know of any decent spots were you can park and fish from the shore?  I drove around the reservior and saw some people out there, but I didn't know where to park.  Thanks.

Mets5,
My son and I started last year fishing from shore at Kensico. It was fun but you may not catch large numbers. Someday you'll have to get a boat, it's relatively cheap. You do have to have your DEP access permit with you and the tag that sits on your car mirror to park.
PERMIT LINK http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/watershed/pdf/accesspermit.pdf

Our main spot was just south of the Rye Bridge on Route 22 on the west side of the road. There is an area to pull off and park and you have to walk/climb up a hill, then down the hill, and you will see a lot of spots with large rocks to stand on.

There are other spots. If you travel around Route 22 and Route 120 and see a clearing to park, try it.

Best Always,
Vinny

Aaahhh Senkos, one of my favorite soft plastic baits, they flat out catch fish either T-Rigged, Wacky Rigged or used on a lead head(grub style) and dragged along the bottom. Try them, they do very well.

I have never used a senko but I have used a Yumdinger witch I think is very similar to the senko.  I have had a good deal of success with it and I think I am not going to mess with success.  I'll change if the Yumdinger goes cold.  The Yumdinger can be fished just like the senko.
