« on: February 01, 2012, 07:25:02 PM »

think more like 37-38 (water temps and your right on it) and I never believe predicted winds.  Predicted 5-10 was easily 15+ at times while I was out yesterday.

CS, A lot depends how stable your boat is and how comfortable you are in it. Needless to say you don't want to stand. If you go over in water in the high 30's, you get into trouble pretty fast even with your vest on. If you go, go early when wind is usually low. Later in the day wind forecasts don't seem worth too much. Good luck out there, Gordon.

CS I would tell you to prepare to go out but if winds and temp is to crazy for your likening then shore fish with your time and explore areas you have not been yet via shore or go to another res that you have not been to via shore fishing. Your " Time In" is price less! So good luck and let us know how u do!

CS i would go out, honestly anything above 30 is comfortable.  Make sure you have layers on. i usually go out with a base layer, thermal shirt, flannel shirt, fleece and a wind breaker jacket on top of all that.  Wear a hat or a hood, bring gloves.  If you prepare correctly, fishing from boat now is very enjoyable.  You will probably have the entire lake to yourself.  The temp and wind seem like perfect conidtions.

Hey, I did go out from 9:30 - 1:00. Used bait with a drop shot and I casted.  No luck. My FF saw only 1 fish the entire time. I tried my new baitcaster, ( of course I did backlash it), Got the hang of it after turning the knobs. water was 37 degrees. Very little wind. No one there but me.
Gave it a shot, my opening day of 2012.
Takce Care,
CS

Got out to Rye lake 7 to 1pm had some shiners with me, early on I figured I was gonna laker out in no time..wrong...2 smallies in 100+ ft of water down about 85ft..had a few other hits, lost something on the way up..2 other boats out there before me, and left before me...it was very nice till about 11am when the wind turned on..then all I wanted to do is just get off the water...

After getting skunked fishing Rye Lake from shore yesterday, I picked up a brown trolling at CFR this am, just over 4 lbs. No wind until 10 am or so, not as warm as yesterday, but a nice day to be on the water.

wow Gordon, great looking male brown.  Good job out there.  CFR is on fire this winter!

That is one fat brown, if you find anything interesting in its stomach, let us know!
