Mike, As usual, great fish! Wish I could get up there in a couple of weeks to try out my new equipment, but timing doesn't look good. Sorry about the knee, although I had a torn meniscus 5 years ago and after minor surgery it's  hard to remember which knee it was a this point. Thanks for all the reports/info- Gordon.

Heading home from Adks. VERY slow on 4th caught only smelt. Fished Indian yesterday and Bill WEC got 3 lakers and I lost one I briefly hooked while jigging. To this end here's what the possible options are for next Saturday:

Fourth: lakers and salmon, lots of bait but the bite has progressively deteriorated in last two weeks. Chance for decent fish but slow lately. EZ access, available lodging but no bait shops.

RAquette: TONS of lakers, decent Brookies and some salmon. Great tip up lake, smelt are down however, need to bring bait but smelt can be caught. Need wheelers or sleds to get to good waters. No close lodging.

Indian: Good population of lakers, browns and pike, some salmon. Good reports of lakers being caught in 23-26" range. Good smelt base. Local bait shop, lodging and two good restaurants. Access to good waters pretty good. Closest of all lakes about 3 1/2 hrs from Carmel, NY.

Will go to any one of these lakes. Right now given how things have been going any choice is as good as others in terms of action. RL requires transportation which may limit some guys. You guys decide where you want to go and we'll plan accordingly. I'll be back up on thurs so will stay in touch via the WF Forum. We should plan to meet by 7:30 am on Saturday to get a full day in fishing.

Great fishing with you yesterday, as discussed (and thought over since your call) Indian might be best for access.  Either access point, the marina or Jerry Savarie road requires minimal walking, and fishing once you get to the lake, plus the lodging, food, bait shop, etc.  Don't forget the breakfast at the firehouse at 7:00am.

I'll update everything during the week.

Thanks again for yesterday.

Bill

Hi Guys after talking it over with several other guys who regularly fish up in the central Adks we all feel that Indian Lake is a good bet for next Saturday especially for fisherman who have never ice fished in the Adks. It's also a nice central location with access to other lakes and the availability of bait, lodging, restaurants/diner and two convenience stores all within 10 minutes of the lake. To this end, for those guys planning to come up we will meet at the Adirondack One Stop at 7:00 am on Saturday located on Route 30 about a quarter mile south of the intersection of routes 28 & 30 in the town of Indian Lake. For lodging just simply google motels or lodging in Indian Lake NY. The Indian Lake Motel is 1/10 of a mile south of the Adk 1 Stop and has decent enough lodging. The local bait shop is less than a mile from the IL Motel as well as the IL Restaurant and Diner.

Anyone who needs more info just email me at:  jager61@comcast.net

Hope to see you guys!

Mike

Just wanted to mention what Bill (WEC) touched on yesterday, the IL Firehouse is having a breakfast at 7:00 am on Saturday. Not a bad idea and an ez Place to meet. Its next door to the Stewarts on route 28 in the center of town of IL.  Plus you can pick up any food, snacks, propane etc. for the ice at Stewarts next door.

Mike I took a look for parking on Lake Shore Drive, there are some property owners who have no parking signs up.  The parking is right in front of the marina.  Jeff couldn't go yesterday, so I went to Lake Abanakee by myself, and had a good day.  I had 20 flags, and caught 8.  I had 3 between 26 and 26 1/2 inches.

Bill,

Thanks for the forecast, the weekend looks completely doable, IMHO.  One little peace of a puzzle is missing: fish bite forecast :D.  I guess we'll know when we are there.

So, let's finalize the meeting place and time: is it IL Firehouse at 7:00 AM with breakfast?  Mike, please confirm.

Ark.

7 am it is! Yes, at the IL firehouse. I'm heading up in the am and will be doing some jigging on some of the local lakes.  Will report back tomorrow evening!

Had a great day out on the Adk Ice today!  The WF forum was nicely represented by these fine fishermen:  ArkPov, Gena Vorn, Trout Stalker and his Son, Chris D, Mr. Esox, WEC (Our Expert Guide), Mike Swaggs (The Taxidermist), Bird Hunter and Yours Truly!  No records were broken but the action was steady.  As a rough guess, there were at least 30 lakers caught today!  Enjoy the pics! - Mike
