Ice fishing outing weekend of Feb 18th & 19th?
« on: February 01, 2012, 05:53:06 PM »
Hey guys, I think the likelihood of ever getting on the ice this year down here is slim to none! Was wondering who might be interested in doing a weekend trip up to the Adks weekend of Feb 18/19? I'm up there every weekend and will be kicked out of my cabin by the wife that weekend so I'm going somewhere and will rent a motel.

I have the inside scoop on just about every Adk lake worth fishing for Lakers and LLS.  Will be going to Tupper this weekend to gather some Intel on some new Laker waters so will report back on that.  So let me know who might be up for it.  Depending on who has a wheeler or sled (Big Willy) will dictate the best location.  Right now I'm thinking Fourth Lake in Inlet (Fav of mine) because it can easily accommodate those without machines and the walk is easy to get to the good waters.  I know it VERY well and there is an abundance of bait available to jig up.  Lots of nice lakers, LLS, rainbows and pike if that's your thing.  I can shuttle guys out with my sled too.

Unless a miracle occurs, don't think lake George or Otsego will be safe this year and I really was hoping to be able to get some of you guys out on the ice who've never tried it before.  Let me know who may be interested and we can take it from there.  We can then discuss who needs what, basic gear to bring, etc. I'm going no matter what so will not be insulted if the interest is not there.

See ya-Mike

Hi, Mike! It's a great idea. I'm planning to go the adks exactly on that weekend. Looking at the 4th or RL. Couple buddies might be interested too. We've got a sled. :)

Count me in!
Take a kid fishing. If there are no kids around or they don't wanna go, take me!

That's great! RL is a good choice too for pure fun. As Troutstalker mentioned a while back however, the lakers tend to run on the short side but you'll chase flags all day. I think once we get an idea of who all is interested we can put it up for a vote as to the lake of choice.  Lodging is limited in the RL area which may complicate things but will figure it out.

As far as I'm concerned there's no need to go for a vote. I've been waiting for an opportunity to hit the Fourth, so it suits me perfectly :)

Would do this w/o another thought if I could.  2 y/o daughter having a Bday party to attend on the 18th and a mommy who works Sundays makes this a dream for me unfortunately.

Mike,

I was hoping you'd propose this!  Just what I was dreaming of.  I was looking at Adirondacks and Forth Lake in particular all iceless winter long, but was afraid to go this far having no experience in the area.  It is very generous of you to be willing to lead a crowd and share your vast knowledge of the Adks with us.

I'll do my best to join you on this trip, possibly with one more friend.  We are fully outfitted for reservoir ice fishing, but have no motorized equipment.  Will be on foot, unless I can drive my SUV on ice?  Looking forward to learning new lakes and new techniques with you help.

Hi Mike,

Sounds great but I can't make the weekend.  I have the following week off though.  If you can post some info on lakes/motels that would be great.  I have only ice-fished in the local reserviors and as they probably won't freeze this winter I would like to try fishing up north.  Thanks.

Fished the Adks again this weekend.  We fished 4th lake friday, met Pauly Pic and His Dad, had a great time despite somehow injuring my Left knee!  Think I may have torn the meniscus!  Oh well, can still fish on the other leg!  Managed only 2 lakers on 4th, my mutant came on a tip up and Kevin's (BC Shanty) came while he was jigging for smelt with 2 lb test!  A real hog of a laker at 11 lbs!  Fished Tupper on Saturday which was mostly a recon mission to learn new laker waters.  Guess we still have some learning to do as we didnt even mark anything the whole day.  Out of frustration I set some tip ups up in the shallows and caught a few Pike!  Sunday we fished Indian Lake and the bite was a bit better.  We only jigged and managed 4 lakers by Noon and we packed it in to get home for the Super Bowl!  Will be heading up again this weekend with my Daughter and we will be hitting 4th lake again on Friday and Indian on Saturday. Will update you on how it goes.  There are several motels in the Inlet, NY as well as neighboring Old Forge just a few miles away.  Cant really recommend any particular one as I'm sure they all are decent.  Best bet is to simply Google "Motels in Inlet, NY" and take your pick.  I'll probably be staying at a motel in Indian Lake as I will be heading back that way Saturday evening to check on my family and my Wife's friends at our cabin!  In the mean time, enjoy the pics!

Thats awesome mike, great job out there.  That 11 pound laker is really impressive.  Thanks for sharing the pics.
