Ken, You are dead on...  How do you know these things??

About 8 years ago a flock of them crapped all over my black jeep cherokee.

What camera and lens was this captured on?

The prey does not look like a ray to me. It looks more like a small rabbit.
Not to many rabbits in the BX so maybe someones pet got swooped away! My Dads Camera (not sure model) I will check the model out on Monday.

Hawks also feed on squirrels which are relatively common everywhere.
I've had them take squirrels from under my birdfeeder. Oh they attack
the Mourning Doves as well.

Last year I was standing outside my house, and it seemed like it was gently raining feathers.   I didn't pay much mind, but it continued.   I looked up, and a hawk was on a branch 50 feet above me, "plucking" a mourning dove.    I guess they eat whatever meat they can catch.

Now if we could just get the Hawks to eat those Parakeets......

Some monk parrots showed up at my feeder about 5 years ago.  Must of been about 8 or 10 of them and they would take over the feeder 3 or 4 at a time.  They came everyday for a couple weeks and then I never seen them again.

Hey Guys!!!

I lived in the Bronx for 30 years of my life!! I have seen every animal that you guys have mentioned . I lived close to pelham Bay and as a kid we used to go to all the parks on our bikes with sticks and strings and shoot everything we could . Not to say we ever got anything!!!! My self and my friends have seen Deer in City Island and Pelham Bay and most recently near Gun hill rd . We used to see coyotes and Hawks near split rock Golf course and all sorts of birds ,Turkeys, rats skunks as well as foxes and animals to this day I don't know in the swamps surrounding the hutch and city island. MORAL of the story  there is all sorts of wildlife to be seen and had in the Bronx . It does not surprise me anymore when old friends tell me what showed up along so and so . This is the norm in that area so the old concrete jungle is certainly a jungle indeed . Never the Less it great to see the Bronx is still surprising people.

wow those quaker parrots are cool.  They go for about $200 a pop! I have a roosteratiel (lol...c-o-c-k-a-t-i-e-l) for the past 10 years. It flew to me while i was walking home from a family party.

I have heard that those monk parakeets are hated by the utility companies because they like to build their nests on the utility poles, and often around wire "junctions."     I would think that would make for a lot of baked parakeet, but I guess not.

Anyway, my Giants just lost a heartbreaker to the Packers, so I am all for killing anything that is yellow and green.

I saw bald eagles up at Pepacton Reservoir last year. I know people see them more and more  on Croton.

Best to All,
Vinny

There used to be bald eagles on the Rye Lake side of Kensico, not far from 684/Airport (e.g - where the boats are on Lake Street).

I have seen bald eagles over the big penninsula while rowing from
Kensico area 3 down to the bridge.

Nice pictures, Lion.  Redhawks are fun to watch.  We had one in our back yard a while back . . .
