;D Came across this quote, thinking about this subject:

"Scholars have long known that fishing eventually turns men into philosophers.  Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to buy decent tackle on a philosopher's salary."

~Patrick F. McManus

This one's also true:

"My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it."

I don't spend nearly what I did when I was single and then married before the kid.

I have most of the gear I need at this point so didn't spend a lot this year, but that's because I splurged last year, new bow, dozen arrows, broadheads, etc.

Did get a bass fishing rod/reel this year, but did it budget since I don't bass fish a lot.

TS is partly right Manny.  May not need to put off the wedding, but Buy Now while you can.  My wife accepts that I will be doing something outside all 12 months of the year, but she keeps a pretty close tab on what new gear shows up too...

TS is right about a lot of things. But I don't currently have any worries about my future wife hindering my fishing purchases. I have a warehouse that I can keep any new gear (if it came to that) I work for my own family business so its easier to get access to funds and purchases through my business so it doesn't show up as personal. I am very fortunate to have a fiance that likes to fish also. But don't get it twisted I 100% know that the world turns upside down and the anchor gets thrown once we start having kids. All priorities change. But I have faith that after that happens she will want me to get out the house with the kids so she can get some alone time. And that is when the kids will learn how to fish weather they like to fish or not! I could be wrong but I can say that a lot of you other fishaholic's on this forum are married and have kids and still find a way to go fishing (and some hunting as well) So there is a strong chance that I will be able to maintain my hobby especially since i got the initial $$$ investment out the way already! Plus I know TS we go fishing together all the time, He just likes to bust my chops about marriage as well as Biggamee so I don't take any of it personal.
If we cant have fun hear then we are stuck trying to use our humor on our wives LOLOLOL ;D
Now if we can only find a cheaper way to do these hobbies?? ?? ??

Manny, I'm in the same situation as you, except that I'm buying a house, and moving away from the res.  So costs and funds will go against me for future trips.  Which is why I stress so much about my cheap, but effective lures.  My $1 lures are keeping me in the game!

I have thought about trying to come up with a figure for how much per pound I am spending on these fish.  Then when I go to Whole Foods and see Sea Bass at $22/lb. it's a little easier to fork it out.  So far, I am sure I am over $1,000/lb.  Since much of what I have invested in this year is reusable, that number will go down quickly.  New investments this year included a boat and boating gear, FishFinder, 2 rods and reels, line and tackle, net, bait bucket and aerator, tackle box and bait.

I moved from the midwest and I have a cabin in the U.P. and all of my fishing gear was/is there.  I didn't want to go get it so I bought everything anew.  Now that I have it, I need to catch a lot of fish!  I would like the fish I catch to get down to under $100/lb someday.

If you mean fishing gear? Because I spend $100 in just fuel alone in about 2 to 3 trips LOL
