Amount $$$ Spent on Fishing in a Season
« on: November 15, 2011, 06:27:26 pm »
What is a normal amount of money spent in a single season by an avid freshwater angler Fly or spinning? Tackle, Travel, Permits,Live bait, boats and ETC.
I think I spent a small fortune and want to check to see if I am the only weird broke fool that loves this hobby so much that $$$$ is a second thought when it comes to getting the tools to go FISHING!
From what I added up I spent close to $5K This season but a lot of it I will not have to buy again for a long time or unless I break something.  :-X
Lets go Yankee's

It is crazy how much everything adds up but its one of my main hobbies. I calculated the amount of money i spent on all my fishing gear and it summed up to be over 10K. I consider it money well spent, it gives me great enjoyment and its a healthy activity thats lifelong.

+ 1, you can spend $5K on a 5 day hunting trip easily and thats not including flights, tips, taxidermy work, etc.

Yeah thats Crazy $$$$ so lets stick to fishing budgets! I cannot afford hunting trips.
5K is a educated guess on what I spent this year. It could be less or more but I think its a good medium to start with. I have a folder with all this years receipts and I will tally them up at the end of the year. I still have to buy Ice fishing gear LOL ;D
Does anyone have a set budget that they use for this fishing hobby?

This freshwater season alone...

Lifetime Combo License - $450
CR Boat, motor, oars, anchor, FF, PFD - $250
Kensico Boat - $175
Caviness Oars, Locks, extra grips - $90
Dick's lure sale - $250
Inflatable Boat Set - $100
Life Vest - $45

Gas - $200
Flat Tire - $100

I don't even want to start adding up the saltwater stuff.  All new rods and reels this season, and haven't caught a single striper yet.

Kensico Boat = $1,000
Miami Fishing Charter + tip = $450
Lake George Fishing Charter + tip = $380
Another Epixor Baitfeeder reel = $80 if i remember correctly
Fenwick Rod = $75
Line, Hooks, Sinkers = $200 approx.
Assortment of lures = $100 approx.
Sawbellies? I am going to guestimate and say I bought 20 doz at $13/doz. = $260
Boga Grip = $125 if i remember correctly

So not counting gas, fishing clothes, food, drinks, cooking supplies for fish, etc...somewhere around $2700 in 2012. If I included that stuff Im sure its getting close to $4K.

Not bad considering I fished only once or twice in september and not since.  Last year in 2011 was much more $ with several poles/reels, CFalls boat, oars, a fishfinder, 2 Lake George Charters, a Connecticut fishing license, etc.

I remember those days, it was great!  Once in a while my Dad still pays for 1 of my hunting trips here and there.

Manny, you'll be fine. You are marrying the wrong girl if you won't be allowed to fish.

As long as your working, providing for your family, etc. fishing once a week or more should never be an issue.
