Cross River update
« on: November 06, 2011, 07:57:53 pm »
Caught my first ever brown today. It measured 20.5 inches and weighed 4lbs. Free spooled a sawbellie when it hit.  Must have been close to the top of the water since I didn't have any weight on the rig.  Was lucky I landed him since I forgot my damn net... also had a small LMB and also a small SMB.  The brown was tasty...  Weather was perfect!  Nice day to be on the water.

Congrats. Beautiful colors on that Brown!

Thanks to all.  It was a real Laurel and Hardy act trying to bring this one in without a net and no leader on my rig.  Thankfully he was hooked really well probably swallowed the bait.  Thanks Lionspark, my wife did outdo me twice with some nice bass this season but now I evened it up with a Brown, finally. I guess I'll continue to take her out... ;D Cross River has been good to us this season, getting much better results than area 21 on New Croton.  Maybe I can land a couple more Browns before seasons end.  That is one fun fish to catch on light tackle.  And they taste really good as well!

Optor--that's a great-looking brown. Was waiting for the browns to come up to topwater on CR (for the water temp to be low enough). Want to throw a few flies at them.

I don't fly fish enough, but have always thought some of the saltwater patterns that are made to look like peanut bunker w/ mylar and crystal flashabou would be deadly in the right circumstance on the rezs since they look exactly like alewives too.

Just thinking out loud here.

Montrose, I have a friend who would use those patterns and troll with his fly rod. He caught.
