I'm more a small stream fan but my buddy went crazy about fishing for salmon and steelies after his first outing on SR. He's totally obsessed, already bought a new 8wt outfit. We'd like to hit Douglaston Run for fresh chromes before the end of November. The only thing is 5 hours drive, so if you plan to go, reserve at least 2 full days to enjoy fishing. It can be a blast one day and nothing the following day.

Got "hooked" on the Salmon River last year.
Me and a buddy went up for the weekend in December, did a drift boat trip on Sat and then fished ourselves on the Sunday.
Lots of nice fish on that Saturday but zero on the water ourselves on the Sunday.
Went up again just last weekend had a drift boat trip booked again for the Saturday but the guide was a no show so we fished the river ourselves all day Sat and half a day Sun.....ZERO Fish!
We were very dissapointed but it seemed we were not alone....nobody seemed to be catching anything, we met a lot of guys with the same story...no fish.
Its a long drive from Westchester to get skunked on both days of a weekend.
Beautiful river though....will most certainly head back up next year.
Now I'm looking forward to making up for it by targeting browns and lakers on Kensico before it ices over.
