JUST GOT MY POWER BACK! sorry i havnt been able to reply.

First day just got skunked, 2nd day landed 2 foul hooked ugly salmon. they were the gross black and white. last day my luck changed. first 2 fish landed on the salmon river ( fair hooked )

that salmon was a surprise, looked pretty fresh for the lower fly zone. he attacked a glo bug out of agression.

What a hen! Congratulations! We're going with buddies on Monday. Did you fish egg patterns only or tried also streamers on a swing?

i tried swinging streamers with maybe one salmon on near pulaski, but the eggs is whats happening. dead drift eggs  close to the bottom. everyone i saw was dead drifting eggs. the takes were pretty aggressive .

Edit- actually i caught the steelhead on an orange sucker spawn. my other friends were there and they caught all of theirs on sucker spawns aswell.

not until next year  :(.  it is fun. you can stand in the same spot for hours and hook into 20 fish because they're always moving.

saw some guy with 3 of those ugly black and white salmon on  a stringer, thats pretty disgusting, i would never eat one of those.

You're right. We'll try for steelies. Did you catch that one in the lower fly zone? We're thinking more of ball park or staircase. Was it crowded, in general?

WOW NICK, great job man. Cool to follow your adventures there. I'm trying to rally a couple of fishing buddies to go but they're dragging their feet....sux.

That salmon isn't so ugly, its a beautiful creature--think how old it is? How much it has had to fight to live so long and come back and spawn.

all the chrome is in the fly zone. i heard a lot of people in the tackle shops saying they were getting skunked. the lower/upper fly zone has tons of salmon, so tons of steelhead. its crowded but not too crowded that you can't find a spot.

A good spot for the steelies this time of year is right above ellis cove in the straightaway and right before the ellis cove pool.look for the salmon that are spawning and they are usually right behind them waiting for the eggs.

Thanks for the advice. Guys at Whitakers also told us it`s a good spot. We fished there on November 7. The action was steady. My buddy got his first fish on a second cast ;D while I was tying on my leader and thinking which fly to start with. It was overcast and fish were on the move. After trying some spots above and below the Ellis Cove we focused on the narrow run just below the riffles. This spot produced all fish we caught. They were incredible fighters - mostly cohos with a couple of steelies mixed in. We had very light tackle (5 and 6 wt rods) and managed to land only 2 fish out of dozen hook-ups. One I remembered most of all was jumping like mad going upstream and downstream, fought him around 5 minutes and got exhausted, very nice feeling. All fish waer in 8-10 lb range. Saw tons of rotten chinooks, some floating downstream dying. Sorry, no pics. We rarely take pictures or measure the fish to be quickly released.
