A new reservoir...
« on: April 06, 2008, 06:34:50 pm »
Arthur and I put a boat on a Putnam reservoir and got on it for the first time today. Mostly is was a day of exploring with not much action. Luckily there was this one spot that Arthur snagged a nice 4.2 lb largemouth on a jig. We had a few average successes and another that came off at the boat that we (honestly) figured to be bigger than the 4.2lber. Still a productive day learning the lake.

The 4.2 Largemouth

Again it seems the water temperatures have most of the fish hanging out but not actively feeding. You had to throw something right in front of them to get a nibble.

Best Always,
Vinny

We were in a jon boat like yours and it was rough at times. The drift sock we had helped.

It was still more fun then sitting home and watching Meet The Press.  :D

I got a drift sock on ebay, you can get them at BassPro. Mine is marked as a 36 inch model. I think that's enough for most 12-14 ft boats. Although it's subtle, it definitely helps slow you down on windy days.

Thanks.

It's funny--on Bass Pro's website they recommend the 18" for 12-14' boats and the 36" for 18-20' boats. 18" sounded a bit small. . .

James,
My theory on the size was that I wouldn't bother with a small one and could deal with a little wind. The bigger 36" one would be the one to throw out the back on a windy day and get the most help to slow down.
