We know the fish were in there...
« on: April 05, 2008, 02:42:09 pm »
Well Tom and my new buddy Bob went with me on Kensico this morning hoping to troll for some brown trout. We had a nice time chatting and analyzing the fishfinder but couldn't get a nibble. We saw a lot of fish at depths between 10 and 20 feet but they weren't biting our presentations.

Tom and Bob were using leadcore setups to get their spoons down to the right depths. I was using sinking Rapala lures on 12lb test clear co-polymer line that got me near 10+ feet. The water temperature was between 42 and 45 mainly. The sky was gray but no rain once we got on the water at about 7am.

I appreciate that my 2 young buddies did the rowing...

I was also happy to bump into a few of our online friends at the launch area and at Wade's later on. I look forward to a productive, fun season for all.

Best to All,
Vinny

It was nice meeting you gentlemen this morning at the launch area. Thanks for the help moving the boat and the fishing tips. Since it was our maiden voyage on the boat my son and I just bounced around the area trying to get familiar with rowing, drifting, balancing, and oh yeah fishing. It was a fun day spending time with my son even though we were shutout. Looking forward to many more days on the res and of course catching some LM/SM. Thanks again guys talk/see you soon.

Tony & Nick,
Some guys will tease me about this but it's not always about the fish. Having great company is just as fun to me. Meeting new fishing friends is cool to.
Best Always,
Vinny

Vinny,
Had a great time fishing with you today  ... or as my wife calls it boating, on account of our shutout.  Your 16' yacht is fun to row, especially when my friend Bob did all the hard work  :D.  Looking forward to our next time out together.

Hey guys,

I saw you out there on Saturday.  I recognized the dual oar locks.   I rowed down from Area 3 to the bridge. I trolled the whole way with a jointed rapala on leadcore between 20-25 feet.   I also had a krocodile running on the surface probably around 6-10 feet.   I picked up fish on the sonar pretty much all day but couldn't get a bite.  I even got brave enough to attempt to fish under the bridge with the way the strong wind coming across the lake.  I used shiners in all depths and still had no luck.    I saw one guy catch a brown but thats it for the day.  He was using shiners, one live lined and one down 10 feet.   Right before he caught it there were a bunch of bait fishing up on the surface in the area he was fishing.

I'm glad (sort of) to see that I'm not the only one getting skunked.   I guess the consensus is that the water is too cold.

 newcaddy4j ,
Sorry you were also skunked! I remember reading that the Browns are top water feeders in the last 2 weeks of April and the first 2 weeks in May. So we don't have too long to wait.  ::)

PS to Vinny H ... I think your four oar yacht is the answer to anyone who laments about not being able to put a motor on their reservoir boat.  All they have to do is get a rowboat like yours and invite a few oarsmen aboard. LOL
