opening day action?
« on: April 02, 2008, 11:24:53 am »
Did anyone go out? The weather report was not good and I went to work. Bad news for the new Wade's! We gotta make sure that Wade's succeeds guys. It would be a catastrophe if we ever lost Wade's. We might save a dollar or two buying ftrom the big catalog guys, but I'm done with that and will only buy line and accessories from Wade's.

Bit windy today. Maybe go out on Thursday after work. Good luck!

Batroun,
Might be better to go out Thursday before work rather than after. Wind is expected to kick up in the PM and Friday is expected to be a washout.  I did go out on Cross River on 4/1. Foolishly left my leaded line in the garage and saw many Brown deep but couldn't get them, with the surface shiners I was using, even with weights. Gusty winds kept the lines close to the surface. Will try tomorrow at dawn with lead line.
Regards,
Tom

Tom, how heavy weight are you using and what kind of set-up for the weights are you using. I fish with mono, spinning gear, and use up to 2oz. of lead if needed to get down 70-80 feet, w/o line twist, (mostly no line twist, it does happen rarely), Da-phish.

I went out.  It was more of a hike then a fishing trip.  Got to Kensico around 6:30am, explored my usual fishing spots along Nanahagen road, only to be greeted by a no admittance for any reason sign.  Ended up starting my trip near where Nanahagen and 120 intersect at the stop sign.  Walked along the shore, found two decent fishing spots on the other side of where everyone docks their boats (#9 If I recall Correctly)

Fished those spots for awhile with no sign of anything, not even a nibble.  Began walking the shore, trying to find another decent spot.  No luck on it.  Probably did about an hour and a half of fishing the whole day.  But it was a lovely hike lol

Da-phish,
Unfortunately I also left my weights at home so I was stuck with fishing close to the surface on 4/1. That was a good ides about putting on up to 2 oz. lead weights to get down 60 feet.  I haven't done this yet ... but I will try it. Today I went to Cross River again and trolled with leaded line and was rewarded with a nice Brown trout. :)

The Brown hit a Rapala jointed shad in a natural color.  I had a second nice Brown hit on a small copper spoon ... but he escaped from me just as I was about to land him.  :'(
