Muscoot Reservoir Question
« on: September 06, 2011, 08:34:40 pm »
Hey everyone. I am thinking about getting a boat on Muscoot Reservoir and I was wondering how the brown trout fishing is there, both recently and in general. I've heard of some pretty big browns being taken out of there. Would it be worth targeting browns there, or would my efforts would be better focused on another reservoir? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

well i know that it is stocked with rainbows and browns, i would assume the fishing would be decent.  I have fished waters that lead into muscoot and only have good things to say about them.

There are definitely good sized and large numbers of browns in Muscoot.  The lake itself is stocked and the many tributaries that drain into it also contribute stocked and wild fish as mentioned above.

If you wanted to target them consistently, year round, I would say try to get a boat down near the Rt. 35 bridge.  In the spring they can be anywhere (as well as now thru the fall and winter as they look to spawn and then hang around tribs post spawn).  Through the summer months it will be tougher, but you'll need to seek out deeper water to have the best chance.

Thanks for the tips johnjav and Montrose. Since there are good numbers of browns in Muscoot, I am definitely considering buying a boat there.

  • That's why they call it fishing and not catching!

Not the best lake for them, but they are defintely there. Rte 35 bridge is the deepest spot and holds them in the warmer months.
Take a kid fishing. If there are no kids around or they don't wanna go, take me!
