Beautiful lakers Killa'! Those bigger ones are a lot of fun when you jig them off the bottom! Congrats on a great outing!

Nice Fish Im shocked that you get to bite throughout the afternoon time. are you using bait at all or are you mostly jigging lures?
Lets go Yankee's

Manny, based on everything I've read over the years regarding Laker behavior and from time spent on the water/ice,  lakers are for the most part, day time feeders and go dormant during dark hours. That being said, there are definite periods during the day when they suddenly "turn off" and go dormant as well. They resume the feed just as quickly however even during the middle of the afternoon. The suspended lakers always seem to be the more aggressive fish.

fishkiller, good job getting the big ones.
Did you happen to weigh the 28 incher?
It had to be between 6-8 lbs depending
on the body.

Ok Thanks. The body types of Lakers vary widely. A Fat fish can weight 1-2 lbs more than a long skinny one. The skinniest big Laker I ever caught was 29 inches and only 6 lbs 2 oz. To answer your question, yes the Lakers reproduce naturally in Kensico and 98/99% of Lakers caught are born there.

I hope you don't feel bad about the Lakers having eggs. The Kensico Laker
program has been far more succesful than the DEC had intended and the result has been an overpopulation of Lakers along with diminishing Browns.
Believe it or not Kensico used be well known as a Brown trout fishery years ago. The fact that very large Lakers seem to have become more scarce in recent years may also be the influence of an overabundance of small Lakers.
Because of the overpopulation of Lakers, the DEC reduced the minimum creel size down from 21" to 18" a couple of years ago in an effort to increase harvesting. Female Lakers have roe (eggs) in them all year round, when this
years eggs bigger and close to "ripe" in Late August band September, they already have next years eggs developing underneath, which are visible.
