Gleneida Brown Mount
« on: September 01, 2011, 08:26:52 pm »
Hi Guys, wanted to share with you the mount of the brown I caught last February jigging on Gleneida.  Thought I hooked a decent laker until I saw the black spots buzzing the hole at Mach 6!!  Couldn't be more pleased with the job the taxidermist did!

Manny, it was by far the wildest fight I ever experienced through the ice!  It took 4 tries to get him to the hole.  Each time he got near he bolted all the way to the bottom again!  I have to once again, give a big heart felt thanks to my good buddy Kevin (aka, "BC Shanty") from the Iceshanty and MFF forums.  If he wasn't out there that day to land it for me, I probably would have lost it.  As it was, he was barely hooked in the lower lip by only one of the three hooks on the treble!  Quite a thrill!

Taxidermist is Mike Swagemaker, (MBS Fish Taxidermy) located in Kent, CT.  He's well known to a lot of the local Westchester and Putnam guys.  He's done a half dozen other fish for me over the years.  Very reasonable rates, and good turn around time.  If you buy bait at Bob's, a lot of Mike's work is hanging up there.  Highly recommend him!

Tommy, here's the fish just after I got him on the ice!  He measured just short of 29" and weighed 11 pounds!

for reference, so you can see pics side by side. Beautiful fish and beautiful mount. I have heard good things about MBS from John as well. I hate when taxidermists make the mounts look so fake. Yours is really nice. Congrats.

Thanks Erik! Tommy, he doesn't have a web site. He's mostly word of mouth. He does this on the side believe it or not!
