Guys it's the reality of having such a forum on the internet. You can't stop lurkers and some are actually interested in fishing but just don't have it in them to post.
Frankly I don't think it adds much of any pressure to our reservoirs. I've seen posts through the years on nybass and here talking about big catches and the next day or weekend there's maybe 1 or 2 extra boats out there. A week later it's back to the regular crowd. A couple of years ago a trophy sized trout was caught at Kensico. The next week there were a bunch of extra boats out but it's not like casual guys saw it and went to DEP, got a spot, and put a boat on Kensico in that time-frame. Again, a week or so later it was back to the same ol' amount of guys out there.
I posted catching a 3.9lb smallie at Bog Brook years ago. I never see more than 2 or 3 boats out there. I go to the same spot with the same t-rigged crawdad plastic and haven't caught a decent smallie since. It takes more than just a quick report to be successful. I might PM someone a map of the walls in BB rather than posting it but it doesn't mean they'll find fish right away.
You could make a forum private but then it defeats the purpose of building a wide community. It would also mean charging to have a private limited membership.
I don't want to sound prejudice or stereotype anyone but a lot of guys who fish aren't the type to be on the computer reading reports to begin with. IMHO
Just some random thoughts,
Vinny
