8-9-2011 Big Brown
« on: August 09, 2011, 03:42:58 pm »
Got the day off so went out this morning to troll cranks with LC.
77F, cool and windless, ideal conditions. Picked up an undersized then
a 20 inch Laker both on 5 colors and released. Around 8:30 the east wind
really picked up and trolling was really no longer enjoyable.
Headed back to the boat area and as I got off the deep area I reeled up my
lines to 3 and 2 colors to avoid snags. I hadn't rowed twice when the 3 color
line looked like it snagged. Picked it up, felt a fish and started reeling, sure that
I had picked up a smallmouth. Suddenly an enormous fish jumped clear out of the
water like a submarine breaking surface, just like in the case of Ark's fish saturday.
After 3 drag runs on seeing the boat and tangling with my other line (lol) I was able to
net the beast. Reservoirdog who was out there too came in at the same time and was good enough to
take some pics. The Brown weighed 9lbs 9oz. Should be able to post some pics shortly.

Yowza! You and Ark are on a hot streak. Congrats on the personal best!

That last photo is perfect. I'm quite jealous :) but frankly you deserve it with all the time you put in on the reservoir.

Best Always,
Vinny

Thanks Vinny, Erik. Yes, this is my PB.

Biz, I've got what feels like 7-8 lbs of filets in the fridge.
Or as my wife terms it.... "too much". lol

W-o-w-w-w!

That is some fish!  Now that I know how big brown fills like I can really appreciate your excitement!  Congrats, Ken!  Even though this will end my short run of fame, I am truly happy for you today! :D  And I promise, I will not stop dreaming of a fish like this until I get one!

It looks like big ones moved closer to shore.  May it be because they are approaching their spawning time and start looking for a tributary to go lay eggs to?  That's a pity they are not going to find any :(

Anybody have any idea how old these 2 fish (Ken's & Ark's) were?  I assume they were stocked, so are they like 4 years old? or like 8? i have no idea, just curious...

Thanks Chris, Ark, Manny.
Ark I tend to agree with you and truth be told your report of Saturdays fish influenced
me alot in terms of what I was doing today.

Biz, I'm not sure. Jacks book says Browns "can" grow as fast as 3lbs per year, presumably
after being stocked into high forage base waters. Assuming they are stocked at 1 year old,
that would make a 9 lb fish 4 years at the very earliest.

Thanks Chris. I found three large sawbellies. All pretty well digested though.
