Area 3 location?
« on: March 18, 2008, 08:24:14 am »
Hey,

The good news is I was able to get my boat on Kensico at area 3.  The bad news is I'm not exactly sure where that is at?   Anyone familiar with that spot?  Areas 1, 3, and 13, were available, did I make the right call?

Thanks,
Jared

Jared,
1 & 3 are in the north end of Kensico nearer to Armonk.  It would be shallow water and good for Bass, but not for browns or lakers, except for very early spring. 13 is where my boat is. Near 684 and Lake Street on Rye Lake.  It has shallow and DEEP water there and is good for everything.

Hey Tom,

Thanks for the info.  I wanted to stay on the kenisco lake side as apposed to Rye lake.   I'm not worried about a little paddling.   Do you know if 3 is along 22?   I though it was just north of the causeway?

Thanks,
Jared

Jared,
Area 3 is right at the point where Rt. 22 diverges fron Rt. 120. After the Rt. 22 bridge, going north there is Area 7,6,5,4, and 3. Not positive but 4 may be the closed Area due to the twister that went through a few years ago. To go from Area 3 to the Rt. 22 bridge would be about a 1 1/4 mile row.
Regards,
Tom

Tom beat me to it but I did play around in Photoshop...

Best to All,
Vinny
PS: Maybe Kensico isn't as closed as we thought

Hey guys,

Thanks for the info.  I drove by there after work today and scouted it out.  yeah Tom, it is a little bit of a row to the bridge , but I bet there are some trout in the area in front of 4.   It did look like 4 was still closed though.  There were no trespassing signs all over that section.

Hey Vinny,

I didn't want to spill the beans about spots on Kensico, but I called the DEC office last week and he told me there were 3 open spots.  I called there early this morning and secured area 3.  Thanks for the info though.

Hey newcaddy4j,

Boat area 3 is good early in the season, which would be most of April and can go into May if the water stays cool enough. The majority of the fish you are going to catch over there are smallmouths, largemouths in the shallower water in the weeds, and a lot of yellow perch too. Occasionally big pickerel are taken down on that end also.
Come later on - June, July, August - you are going to have to row down to the rt. 22 bridge to see good numbers of lake trout in the deeper water - 60 to 70 feet.

P.S. anyone looking to put a boat on Kensico should do it sooner than later, because the available spots will fill up fast.

Hey Wade, thanks for the info on the area.  I guess I'll hang out in area 3 on Tuesday and familiarize myself with the water. I bought a Hummingbird sonar and will probably spend a good portion of Tuesday checking the lake out.

Take it easy.
