Hey Manny the sonar I use is a Lowranxe X-135. It's an older sonar that I got from Cabelas. The successor to this uniT is the Elite 5X. Cabelas has a special on them right now for $220.00 Its a nice unit, completely portable and you can use your clamp on transducer gadget you made! If I didn't have two X-135's i would get one of these. Lots of power, 4000 watts, great for these deep reservoirs!

Mike, Thanks to you and Butch for all the advice- very useful. Went up to Rondout this am, got a 19" smallie jigging and a pair of roughly 20" lakers, one jigging, one on sawbelly. The fish are there, I just need more practice! The surface temp was 71 in am, so this may help releasing fish compared with kensico.

Thanks Gordon. Got them all on sawbellies except got one jigging. I need practice on my jigging technique LOL Where did you end up putting your boat on Rondout? How deep did you get the ones you caught? We got them all 70-85ft down.

Chris,I was fishing in 100-120 ft., caught lakers at 80-90 ft., following your advice about targeting the shallowest of the fish. I put my boat on Rte.55 side, the closest access point to the dam in zone 2, since zone 3 is now closed. Good parking, not too many boats and a reasonable walk, but I may look around zone 4 as well on 55a side to be closer to the dam. Where is your boat? Also, Mike where did you decide to put your Rondout boat on Friday?

Gordon I put my boat on the 55a side in area 4. It's a bit steep and some rocks to negotiate but you're in laker water almost immediately. Nice short row and you are in 100 + FOW and close to the dam. There's also ample space to put boats and a very easy walk down from road. We checked out the grassy clear cut a little further down from dam but it is very limited as far as trees to chain up to. I'm also gonna scout around a bit in area 4 the next few trips to see what else may be available but for now this spot will do. More important to be near the deep water anyhow! Nice to see everyone is having success out there!

Gordon, I'm on the 55 side at the small cove just past Sherman Rd. I'm almost directly across from the grassy area on the 55A side. I dont have a map of the Rondout that shows the boat zones on it or I would tell you the area number. If you happen to have a copy of a map with boat areas on it an wouldn't mind emailing it to me I would appreciate it. Then I could also tell you my boat area number. In any case I believe my boat is just a short ways NW of yours. Good luck fishing up there and keep the reports coming if you don't mind!
