Roundout 7/29/11
« on: July 29, 2011, 04:01:47 pm »
Put a boat on Roundout today, first time ever fishing there. Beautiful reservoir and location! The lakers did not disappoint! Butch and I fished from 10am until noon and we landed 9 lakers including 2 nice fat ones at 28" and 8 lbs each! They are well fed! Rest of the fish ranged from 2-4 lbs. Great first trip!

Thanks guys! What a fun reservoir! There were lakers suspended all over the place. Not all were active but quite a few were. We had some that chased us up from the bottom in 140 FOW and came within 30 ft of the surface before backing off! Can't wait to spend a full day there!

Mike, You guys are unstoppable with the lakers! Did you get them all jigging, or yanking lead as well? I'm heading up there next week, long drive but a nice reservoir- Gordon.

Hey Gordon, we got them all vertically jigging white Swedish pimples #9. The water was like a mirror with no wind which is a jig fisherman's dream! We were able to observe our jigs on the sonar and target fish we saw suspending in the water column. We were in 140 FOW and most of the aggressive fish were in the 90-100 zone! Awesome action! We brought the yanking rods in case there was wind.
Good luck tomorrow it's worth the ride, 1 1/2 hrs for us!

Mike,
Congrats on your (usual) great catches!
I've been succesful releasing Lakers till early last week when I ended
up with two floaters in a row. I've been avoiding going below 40ft since.
How do you guys deal with this?
Ken

Ken, we try not to play them and do the risky thing by just horsing them up and then lipping them with the boga if they look decent enough to get a weight. The rest dont even come out of the water and we just grab the hook with pliers and immediately shake 'em loose and release them. We've got enough pics of fish by now so unless it's a slammer, no pics! Every fish was successfully released today. One was iffy but he got his legs (fins) back and bolted to the bottom! It's really cool watching them dash down to the bottom on the sonar!

I seen this contraption that looks like a needle , I think rather than burping them you stick this needle in them and they swim away fine . I seen it on one of those fishing shows on OLN.
